Here's a Quick Preview:
The Light Sussex originated in the county of Sussex, England, where they were prized as a table fowl. They are somewhat new to the US but are gaining in popularity and for good reason. They are a wonderful dual purpose breed. Hardy, dependable layers which also provide a good carcass for meat making them ideal for the backyard flock. They are also known for going broody and being good mothers.

My Flock consists of 2 Lines. One from Bill Braden Landoftobe in OK and the other from Paul Bradshaw's Australian imports Greenfire Farms in FL. The 2 lines seem to complement each other very nicely. Bill's birds are fairly good sized with good type, clean legged, fairly strong in the black, and early to mature. Paul's birds are huge (can they be too large?) with very good type, very strong black but there is some ticking and also some feathering in the legs and are later to mature. Both lines are beautiful with nice straight broad backs. I am keeping each line separate and also will be crossing the lines and will update as things progress. In my experiences with this breed they are proving to be one of the sweetest, friendliest, beautiful, non aggressive birds I've ever owned. Can't say enough good about them!
